What made you leave Islam on coming to the West? What has been the
reaction of family/friends to this apostasy?
You have to realize that many Muslims or in fact the majority of them
have
strong humanistic values. Unfortunately you do not see these values
coming
to fruition in Islamic countries. They are nipped in the bud because
the
laws of Sharia and the teachings of the Quran are against them.
Unfortunately
Muslims blame this on the “fundamentalists”. Only when you read the
Quran
you realize that the culprit is not fundamentalism but Islam itself.
Islam
is fundamentalism. Quran is full of violent and bloody instructions. If
you
have a conscience, no matter how strong your faith, you cannot remain
untouched
after you read the Quran. This is what happened to me. I read the Quran

Mohammed was a
businessman in the 7th Century AD, often trading with Christian and
Jewish merchants. He began to claim revelations, which are recorded in

from his trading partners.
Mohammed used his 'revelations' to establish himself-at the point of a
sword-as a political/religious ruler, until 630 AC Mecca had been taken
by force and become the centre of worship and pilgrimage for his new
religion. By the time he died in 632, Mohammed had imposed himself both
as a 'prophet of Allah' (the moon god of the Middle and Far East), and
as a ruler of a large part of Saudi Arabia.
After his death, many of the surrounding tribesman tried to break the
control of Mohammed's successors, but Abu Bakar (632-4) soon reduced
them to submission, and then sent the same tribesman against their
comfortable, prospering neighbours, Iraq, Syria, Palestine. They
overran them with ease. By 638 Iraq and Syria were on their control; in
641 they took Egypt; by 651 Iraq was under Muslims rule. More conquest
of North Africa began, with prolonged resistance from the indigenous
Berber peoples. By 700 almost the entire area was subdued and in 711 a
joint force of Arab and Berber Muslims launched an invasion across the
