Years ago before I even became a Christian, the Ian McCormack testimony inparticular had quite an effect on me.

You must be born again Jesus tells Nicodemus to enter God's kingdom, heaven, to be saved.
So what is the opposite of heaven, God's kingdom, that's right, hell.

Matthew 10:28 Don't be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.{or, Hell.} (World English.)

John 3

1   Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2   The same came to him by night, and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him."
3   Jesus answered him, "Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew,{The word translated "anew" here and in John 43
4   Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5   Jesus answered, "Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can't enter into the Kingdom of God!
6   That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7   Don't marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew.'

Did Jesus Himself take hell as literal and deadly serious:-

Luke 16

19   "Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
20   A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21   and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22   It happened that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.
23   In Hades{or, Hell}, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom.
24   He cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.'
25   "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in like manner, bad things. But now here he is comforted and you are in anguish.
26   Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that none may cross over from there to us.'
27   "He said, 'I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house;
28   for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so they won't also come into this place of torment.'
29   "But Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.'
30   "He said, 'No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
31   "He said to him, 'If they don't listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.'"

HA HA I SIMPLY DO NOT BELIEVE YOU SO I DON'T CARE

Ian McCormack's near death testimony and many others also back up a literal place for eternal punishment for all those that don't accept Christ. Ian says, 'What are you talking about I don't believe, well I tell you what when you die and enter that place you'll become a believer, but it's too late then.' Along those lines, not word for word, as I always have a bad memory for word to word things (laughs) But read his tesimony or listen to it.

I have a very good book called 'Beyond The Final Frontier.' It is by Dr Richard Kent with David Waite.
In fact this is one of two books, this one containing at least some 26 testimonies, some of which tell of the awful horror of suddenly finding themselves in hell, some of these accounts are often children and are not even religious.
 
Remember never take my word for it, HELL is a real place, and the Bible says all have sinned and, see for yourself:-

Romans 3:23   for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;
24   being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;
25   whom God set forth to be an atoning sacrifice{or, a propitiation}, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God's forbearance;
26   to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.
27   Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what manner of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
28   We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
